Transport   Equipment  for  LNG and LPG

Oleg Cheremnyh, Deputy of the General director, Deputy of the General constructor of   "Uralkriomash" Company

Increased production of  Liquefied  Natural Gas (LNG)  in Russia in the nearest future is connected with its export to Scandinavian and C.I.S. countries, as well as with the implementation of   the Federal programs on LNG use in railway and auto transport. Increased LNG production and  its export  make it necessary to build an adequate infrastructure for LNG gasification, storage and delivery to consumers,  as well as  to create new transport facilities for LNG shipment. "Uralcriomash" Company  has  the  50 years  experience of  invention and manufacture in stationary and mobile means of delivery and storage of liquefied gases: oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, ethylene, fluorine, dioxide of carbon. “Uralkriomash” began  experiments with LNG in 1986 as a fuel for an aircraft – “Tupolev-155” – a flying laboratory  which took on board 17,5 cubic meters of LNG from a 10 cubic meters refueling vehicle. At the same time in connection with the Decree of  the Council of  Ministers of the USSR  on  LNG conversion of railway locomotives “Uralkriomash” began to work on constructing documentation for 65 cubic meters railway cistern. At present it is possible to manufacture a 110 cubic meters railway cistern.

The most efficient way of  liquefied gases  delivery to consumers is by multi-module shipment in containers-cisterns. In 1998  the Company began to manufacture 25 cubic meters containers-cisterns for carrying propan-butan  mixtures and a  40” container-cistern  for transportation  of 35 cubic meters  of  LNG.  The container-cistern has been attested by Russian Marine Register of Shipment and it enables to ship 15,5 tons of product for 30 days without  drainage. This container-cistern may be transported by  auto vehicles, by rail road and by ship. For a long time storage of LNG  a 44 or 120 cubic metrers storage container is used with its 0,2% daily loss of liquid gas by evaporation.

The article contains two tables of the technical characteristics for two types of containers- cisterns produced by "Uralkriomash" Company.
